Actor Ranbir Kapoor has shared insights about the sequel to his 2023 film Animal, titled Animal Park. In an interview, Ranbir praised director Sandeep Reddy Vanga as an "extremely original director," revealing that Sandeep aims to create an "over three-part" movie for the franchise.
Ranbir stated, “The director is making another film right now; we should start that film in 2027... I think he (Sandeep Reddy Vanga) has only just hinted at what he really wants to do with the movie. He wants to make it over three parts, with the second part named Animal Park.”
Interestingly, Pushpa, directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun, is also being developed into a three-part series. The first installment, Pushpa: The Rise, was successful in 2021, and its sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule, had the biggest opening for an Indian film last week. Production on the third film, Pushpa: The Rampage, is set to begin next.
Ranbir further elaborated, "We have been sharing ideas from the first film on how he wants to advance the story. It's very exciting because now I get to play two characters—the antagonist and the protagonist. It’s an extremely exciting project with a highly original director, and I'm looking forward to being part of it."
In addition to Ranbir, Animal features Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri, and Rashmika Mandanna. The film, produced by T-Series Films, Bhadrakali Pictures, and Cine1 Studios, received mixed reviews from critics, facing criticism for its portrayal of misogyny, toxic masculinity, and graphic violence. The story centres around Ranvijay, the ruthless son of a powerful industrialist, and his tumultuous relationship with his father.
At the recent 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), a participant expressed concerns about the film’s message that violence can lead to success in life and suggested that such films should not be encouraged. In response, Ranbir acknowledged the concern, stating, “I completely agree with your opinion. As an actor, it is our responsibility to bring films that promote positive change in society. However, I also believe it's important for me to explore different genres and characters. What you're saying is absolutely valid; we must be more responsible about the kinds of films we create.”
